In every plant or industry, there are many tasks and operations that must be carried out to increase the productivity and efficiency of that plant. In order to perform these tasks and operation properly and efficiently, there are many types of machines and tools used in industry. These machines and tools not only allow the workers to do the operations in very less time, but also help them in doing it in a more precise manner and increase their efficiency and productivity.
Tools that are used in industries are basically classified in two ways- fixed and heavy tools and portable and handheld tools. Fixed tools are very heavy and are used for the operations that cannot be done by light tools and need heavy work force to be performed. The fixed tools are so heavy that it is very difficult to move them and take them to every part of a plant. For this reason, these tools are fixed at one place and work piece is brought to these heavy machines for various operations.
On the other hand, the handheld tools are very versatile and can be moved easily to any part of the industry. Portable tools like wrenches, hand grinder and welding sets are considered to be the best friends of a worker in industry. They are used for various bolting and cutting operations. The only problem with handheld tools is that they engage the hands of a worker and lower his efficiency. In order to free the hands of a worker and increase his functionality and productivity, tool balancers are used.
A tool balancer is a device that is used for holding the small tools without engaging the hands of a worker. A tool balancer contains a metal wire that is enclosed in a metal casing. On one end of the spring balancer, a metal hook is placed, which is used to hold the handheld tools. The metal wire is attached with a spring mechanism, which provides automatic winding ff wire when not in use. The tension of the spring determines the force to be applied while pulling the tool down or up. This force can be adjusted by the tension in the spring using a lever present near the metal casing.
Whenever a worker needs a tool, he can easily pull down the tool from the tool balancer and when he is done with that tool, it will be automatically pulled up without causing any problem. A spring balancer not only increases the productivity of a worker, but also prevents any hazards or accidents due to mishandling of tools. In addition, it also increases the tool life as it prevents any damage to the tool due to normal drops, wear and tear. Another positive attribute is that the spring balancers do not need any power source for operation and are self operated.
